What is the Gut Microbiome?

Did you know the human body actually contains more bacteria than cells? That's right! There are trillions of microscopic organisms living inside each and every one of us, both good and bad. The good organisms—we call them "good" bacteria—are essential to our overall health, residing in our gut and feeding on specific foods we eat. When we eat the right food that feeds the good bacteria, we're helping them do their job of keeping the "bad" bacteria at bay and as a result, regulating many of our important bodily functions: blood sugar control, digestion, metabolism, heart health, and even mental health! Pretty incredible, huh?
